At a managers’ meeting, we were talking about how to handle a few of our chronic problem employees. I joked that the easiest and quickest way might be to strangle them. My boss gave me a written reprimand for the comment for violating our policy against workplace violence. He said my comment could possibly be perceived as a threat and that violence is no joking matter. Should I have challenged the reprimand? This seems like an over-reaction to me. What would you have done?
