If you are going for effective AND legal, perhaps you could simply learn the basics of employee management and progressive discipline. I suggest “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Human Resources Management”. In your case, I have a feeling the title would be accurate (and no, I did not get compensated for mentioning this book). I have never read it but I think anything would be an improvement for you.
