I am a supervisor and would like to talk to my employees about the presidential primary elections. Most of them do not keep up with the news and I want them to be well informed before they vote. Something tells me that this could be a bad idea. Is it?
Dear [Air Quote] Supervisor [Air Quote]:
It is not nearly as bad an idea as making you a supervisor.

You should know better than to even ask that question. Of course it is a bad idea for a supervisor to “inform” employees about politics. How they vote or who they support is none of your business. Period. In many jurisdictions, you could expose your company to a lawsuit if employees believe based on your conduct that their jobs are at risk if they do not vote the way you like.
If you feel the urge to start running off at the mouth, try one of the following:
- Do your real work;
- Do your real work; or
- Do your real work
