A group of other managers and I were talking and could not decide between Mondays or Fridays. We are interested in your opinion. If you were going to be fired, what day of the week would you want it to be?
If I had a choice, I would choose to be fired by the company the day after I file a serious safety violation report against it with a federal enforcement agency. The settlement check and the movie rights would be better than winning any silly old lottery.
Otherwise, I guess I would choose Wednesdays. That way, I would have more time to recover from the news before the weekend. I’d hate to wreck a weekend.

I just would not pick my birthday or a major holiday. After that, I don’t think I would care what day of the week it was when I got fired.
Readers – what day would you choose?
As for when an employer should terminate someone (no matter when that person might prefer to be fired), the timing will depend on the circumstance. Some offenses mean a person should be fired that day. Others might provide a bit of flexibility. I say be fair, be consistent and be kind – but be a supervisor. If someone has earned the right to be fired, fire that person.
